What will you do?
As a Structural Analysis Engineer, you will create, modify, and maintain finite element models (FEMs) of components and systems, with applications including stress analysis, structural dynamics, optical performance, and test correlation.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform structural finite element analysis (FEA) for a range of solutions and load types, including static, nonlinear, thermal distortion, modal, and structural dynamics (vibration & shock)
- Perform structural-thermal-optical-performance (STOP) analysis for optical components and systems
- Assist in redesign and optimization of structures and systems not meeting load & environment requirements
- Generate custom codes to speed, improve, or expand analysis workflow and capabilities
- Perform pre-test analyses and model correlation
- Support test plan development and execution of feasibility studies
- Present findings to the project team, company, or customer
- Create reports to document analysis results, conclusions, and recommendations
Location
Position is based in either San Diego, CA, or Herndon, VA with a hybrid schedule.*
*The hybrid work arrangement is subject to change based on business needs including but not limited to training, performance, or other operational requirements. Any physical location change may impact future employment.
What are we looking for?
- BS and/or MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural, or similar Engineering field
- 4+ years of work experience with heavy emphasis on FEA
- Experience or expertise in one or more of the following commercial mechanical analysis tools is required: HyperMesh, FEMAP, NASTRAN
- Experience in one of the following areas: Spacecraft, Aeronautics, Composite Structures, Optical Systems
- Must be a US Person (US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or expertise with static, modal, and/or vibration test planning, analytical direction, and correlation is highly desirable
- Experience in designing using CAD/CAE software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Familiarity with optical raytracing software (eg. Zemax, CodeV, etc.)
- Experience or expertise in coding with MATLAB, Python, or similar is highly desirable
Compensation and Benefits
Engineer III pay range: $94,581 - $157,635
*This pay range represents base pay. In addition, you may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
